Whenever I've had to explain how a Subversion repository works, I always talked about it as a remote database that tracks who did what. I think the general IT population knows enough about a database that it makes them comfortable with the idea that a Version Control system is just a glorified database.

Jakub Narębski: git-gui looks useful. I'll stick to CLI and gitk but it's nice to know it's there.

First, to publish repository via HTTP you have to not forget to tun git-update-server-info, usually via post-update (or post-commit) hook.

Second, there is now git-gui (in Tcl/Tk) bundled with Git - graphical commit tol (and graphical blame). So you don't necessary need to use CLI, although it is most common.

Third, you don't need Cygwin to use git on Windows. You can use msysGit port (search for project with this name at Google Code).

Its so funny to have you post on this. I posted a couple weeks back on "coding from the park" or going off line with git. This weekend I did a bunch of work using git to clone an svn repo I was using then submitted all the changes when I got back to civilization.

I found a package installer for git which worked really well for me. Not that i dont like compiling or anything, it was just less work :)

Glad to see we are on the same path, yet again.
