Hi Rob,

Two things:

1) I've heard John Gatto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Taylor_Gatto) speak, and he has similar things to say. Very interesting and relevant stuff.

2) Also you seem to be the same Rob Rohan who made the Chinese Words widget, and I'd like to talk with you about creating another widget for a Chinese calendar that my friend and I have already finished- 365 days. And also another widget on the material found at this link: http://www.experiencesabroad.com/beijing.html . Obviously I can't find your email on any of your pages to email you or I would have.

Cheers,
Sam

I don't know mate, he might be on to something. I was told I wasn't allowed to let computing occupy my time -- something like, "it's a play thing that won't amount to anything but a distraction from your entrance exams" -- or words to that effect. Clearly the "Director of Studies" for my alma mater was a man of great vision, but in one respect he was right -- you can't afford to be distracted if the overwhelming goal of high school is to achieve access to University. Perhaps we should have other goals.

To be honest, I'd be happy if they just started teaching facts to kids. And backing that up with the ability to rationalise that all truths are a combination of who is doing the telling, what the original question was and how the data was gathered. Instead I find modern curriculum tends to be dedicated to one idealism or another, moral relativism and little if any effort to empower students to seek the truth for themselves.
