Ordering iPhoto in Reverse Chronological Order
This is a very small thing that has been bothering me lately, and a benevolent voice from the void showed me how to resolve most of my woes.
I’ve noticed that everywhere photos are displayed on all my devices, the order is oldest to newest. It’s a very small thing, but I have photos from around the year 2000, and scrolling through 13 years of photos to get to a recent one started to bother me a bit.
To me, it makes more sense to order photos from newest to oldest. The two places where I want this order the most are in the following finder dialog box:
and in the Photos app on my iOS devices.
Unfortunately, I haven’t found a way to order the photos “newest to oldest” on iOS (I think it should be default personally), but I was shown how to do it on the desktop. It is straight forward once you know how.
- Open iPhoto
- On the left select photos
- In the main menu select View then Sort Photos
- Tick Descending
Doing so not only updates the iPhoto application itself, but now when you go into the finder dialog for photos the order will be newest to oldest as well:
Luckily, scrolling through 13 years of photos on iOS doesn’t take all that long, but it’d be cool if this setting carried over for both iPhoto for iOS and for the general Photo app… one can dream.
It’s a little thing, but it’s fixed a bump in my work flow — thanks for the tip.
