Since I’ve done Chinese (Simplified / Mandarin) on Mac, I figured I might as well round it out, and try to figure out how to do it on Ubuntu Linux.

When you enable Chinese on Ubuntu, it also allows you to log into the system using Chinese for most everything (menus, terminals, office applications, browsers, etc). Running your system in Simplified / Madarin is quite fun if you are learning Chinese.

The following movie is how you set up pinyin Mandrin typing to simplified character output, and a bit of a demo of Chinese mode:

I also found some stickers on ebay that you can stick on your keyboard to create faux Chinese keyboard layouts. I would never do such a thing to my Mac, but on this ThinkPad I have no fear (I still haven’t found a proper Chinese Mac keyboard).

I am going to give those stickers a shot with the Wubi keyboard layout (I’ll post if they work well when I get them). If you have any suggestions on Wubi layout, or perhaps a better one, I am all ears.

再见!
