After doing everything step-by-step, when I tried to register the image, the ec2-register command wasn&#039;t found.  I learned though the Amazon Forums, that ec2-register is in ec2-api-tools, rather than ec2-ami-tools.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Perhaps that has changed since the tutorial was written, because it seems like such an obvious oversight.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Regardless, the steps were otherwise spot on, and very easy to follow.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I had to add the dashes back to the account number to get this to work.
Also, if you have any mounted drives, make sure you exclude them or there will not be enough room for the image&lt;/p&gt;
