To try to help with my Chinese listening skills I’ve been on the hunt for some Chinese (Mandarin) music. I’ve found a couple bands here and there, but most of them sound like this. It’s not horrible, but it’s Disney-esque formulaic which is not quite my style. It’s in the name of education though so I’ve been overlooking that fact.
However, I spotted a gem of a story on digg today about a 北京 alternative rock band called Lonely China Day. And as an added bonus, they are available on iTunes.
It’s a trippy album. Some of their songs sound like the slower Pink Floyd songs, some kind of sound like a Prodigy / U2 mix. The album is an interesting mix of sound effects and rock. If you are learning Mandarin and like rock music check’em out.
Also if you have any suggestions on similar bands, I’d love to hear about them.
The name of the band is Lonely China Day the name of the album is Sorrow, I originally posted those backwards.
