Google OS

The

is reporting that Google has confirmed that it is working on a desktop OS. The OS is based on the Ubuntu GNU/Linux distribution (which I highly recommend if you like / want to try Linux). No one is sure if it’s an internal only desktop OS or if they might make it available to the general public. If you search Google images for Google OS you’ll get a horde of pictures that look like the one to the left.

If that’s what the UI looks like… um… it looks more fisher-price-ish than windows XP - which I didn’t think was possible. I am guessing it’s geared toward home users (or preschoolers maybe).

I would be totally stoked to see a Google Desktop OS, but I sure hope it doesn’t look like that - it kind of looks like the BeOS, but the way it looks… I don’t know… it just personally rubs me wrong.
